Victory Memorial United Methodist Church

A caring community of Christian persons.
Pioneer Days Sunday
Come join us on Sunday, May 7th, for a time of fellowship and music featuring the King’s Heralds quartet! We will only have the 10:50 service that day. Bring a friend, it will be great!
Remember to pick up your Easter lily from the sanctuary. You may either swing by and pick it up during the week or grab it Sunday morning after either service. A list of donors and those honored will be included in the April 23rd bulletin.
SOS Meals Committee
After we had someone volunteer to round out a SOS team, we had another spot open up! So, if this is a ministry you would like to be a part of or would like to know more about, please let the church office know! This is a great way to take care of those in our church after they’ve been in the hospital.
As an organization, United Methodist Women (UMW) has always understood that giving is an expression of God’s grace. UMW is committed to ministries that help relieve suffering and improve the quality of life. It is our belief that education is an important avenue that can lead to an improved life. To that end, UMW has developed this scholarship as a means to share God’s grace.
This scholarship is open to an individual actively attending Victory Memorial United Methodist Church who is enrolled at a post high school education institution to include but not be limited to a college, university, or career tech.
The amount of this scholarship is $2,000 payable $1,000 per semester upon proof of enrollment.
Applications must be received no later than the 1st day of May. You may pick up your application at the church office.
Mark Your Calendars!
Vacation Bible School will be July 17-20, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. each day. The theme this year is “Hero Central: Discover Your Strength in God” and Lacey Johnston is our director. If you would like to help, please call Connie at the church office.
You don’t have to go through it alone
Most people will tell you that separation and divorce are the most painful and stressful experiences they’ve ever faced. It’s a confusing time when you feel isolated and have lots of questions about issues you’ve never faced before.
DivorceCare groups meet weekly to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each session has two distinct elements:
A Seminar with Experts
During the first 30–40 minutes of the meeting, each DivorceCare group watches a video seminar featuring top experts on divorce and recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an interesting-to-watch television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life case studies and on-location video.
A Support Group with Focus
After viewing the video, DivorceCare group participants spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in the lives of group members.
Classes have begun, but you are more than welcome to still attend! They're held Monday nights, 6-8 pm, in the Fellowship Hall.
If you have any questions, please call Pastor Gary at 580-338-6501 or check out the DivorceCare website at www.divorcecare.org
Youth Force Guymon
June 25-30, 2017
Victory Memorial UMC will be hosting Youth Force Guymon, June 25-30, 2017. Please put this date on your calendar and plan on being available to volunteer to help where needed. This is a week-long mission experience for Jr. and Sr. High youth. We will house and feed the youth here at the church and they will work on projects throughout our community. Jacque Anderson will be our director. We will need people to help make sandwiches, we will need people or groups to provide breakfast and dinner plus there will be many other opportunities to help as the time gets closer.
We would like to put your military loved one in a picture in our newsletter! Please send us a picture at: email@example.com
New Life Safety Team
Emergencies can happen anywhere, even in church. It could be a medical emergency, a tornado emergency, a child safety issue, a bomb threat, robbery, physical assault, or the increasing incidents of an active shooter in schools and churches. Victory Memorial is in the process of training a “Life Safety Team” to respond in case of all these emergencies. We have sent a team to training and will be training others in the near future.
As a result, there will be some changes on Sunday mornings. We will have certain doors locked on Sunday mornings so as to lessen the chances of any safety issues. The doors will be clearly marked with a sign. This may take some time to get used to but it will result in a greater degree of overall safety for our church family. You may have to change your routine a bit. You may have to check your young children in and out of the nursery on Sunday mornings. Many of these safety measures are already being used in other communities.
We are proud to be able to provide this added level of safety for our church family. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Pastor Gary or stop by the office.
Children’s Offering for Classroom in Liberia
On the first Sunday of each month we will have a “Children’s Noise Change Offering” for Missions. Our goal is to furnish at least one classroom at our New Hope Academy School in Liberia, Africa at the cost of $1000. This will provide furniture, supplies, etc. for one classroom. All donations for the noisy offering will be greatly appreciated. It will be an ongoing project. Other donations can be given if desired and clearly marked for “New Hope Academy School”. Additional classrooms may be supplied as needed. We are now well on our way to furnishing a third classroom!
The March/April Upper Room Devotionals are now available in the church office or at any of the church entrances. Pick up one for yourself, your family, your friends...they’re absolutely free and a great read!
You can now give to the church electronically! There are two new Kiosks which are set up every Sunday morning for anyone to use. Both are located in the Archives room (back of the Sanctuary) located nears signs that say "Giving Center." You can also click the link on the right hand side of our home page (victorymemorial.org) either while on your computer or smartphone to give. From either of those, you can bookmark the page for quick and easy access. Let us know if you have any questions or need help with anything!
Very rarely are church services, committee meetings, etc. cancelled, but when they are we always will send out notifications. The quickest and easiest ways we are able to contact our members is by sending both an email and text message out, along with posting something on Facebook. If you would like to be added to one (or both) of these lists, please let the church office know! Word of mouth has always been great, too, so if you know someone who can’t receive a notification from us, please help us out by passing the word along!
